You may transfer domain names to other domain registrars or you may change nameservers for your domain. Due to the policies of the domain registration authorities (ICANN and Nominet) and the risk of domain name hijacking, all domain transfers and nameserver changes will be subject to certain conditions being met as detailed below. These conditions are for your benefit and are to ensure that your domain name is secure.
For security of your domain name, we will not under any circumstances allow domain transfers unless these conditions are met in full.
Change Nameservers Changing nameservers allows you to point your domain name to new web servers. The conditions for nameserver changes apply to all domain names registered with us.
If you are hosting your website with us, we will change nameservers for your domain without charge. If you wish to host your website with another company, nameserver changes will be subject to an administration fee of £10.00+VAT.
To change the nameservers for your domain, please send us proof of authority as outlined below, together with the primary and secondary nameservers you intend transferring your domain name to (if you are unsure of your new nameservers, please contact your new web host). Payment must be made prior to nameservers being changed.
You should note that your domain name will still be registered with us, and we will continue to bill you for renewals at our standard rates for domain name registration and renewals.
Transfer .uk domain name to new registrar .uk domains may be transferred to another domain name registration company by changing the IPS tag. This applies only to .uk domain names. IPS tag changes will be subject to an administration fee of £10+VAT.
To change IPS tag for your domain name, please send us proof of authority as outlined below, together with your new domain registrar's IPS tag (if you are unsure of this please ask your new domain registrar). Payment must be made prior to the IPS tag being changed.
Please note that as soon as an IPS tag is changed, your new domain registrar will have total control of your domain name - we will have no control over your domain name and can not make further changes to it.
Transfer gTLD domain name to new registrar Global domain names (gTLDs) such as .com, .net and .org can be transferred to new domain name registrars, but the procedure is more complicated than for other domain names and can take several days to complete. This procedure is not ours, it is that of the domain registration authorities.
You will normally need to pay your new domain registrar a fee for inbound transfers - this will normally include renewal of your domain name by one year. In addition, we charge an administration fee of £10+VAT for the release of your domain name.
To transfer your domain name to a new domain name registrar, please follow these procedures:
- Check that your new domain name registrar will allow inbound domain transfers, and check any fees you may need to pay them
- Send us the necessary proof of authority to make changes to your domain name and pay us the administration fees and wait for us to confirm receipt
- Ask your new domain registrar to request transfer of your domain name and pay any fees due to them
- Within a day or two, we will receive a request to release your domain name and (subject to the necessary proof of authority and administration fees) will confirm release
- Your domain name will then be transferred to your new domain registrar
Please note that you must follow this procedure carefully or your domain name transfer will not be authorised or may not succeed. You must also be patient - this procedure can take several days to complete.
You should also note that gTLD domains can not be transferred in the first 60 days after registration or renewal or the 40 days prior to renewal.
Proof of authority to make changes to your domain name In order to prevent unauthorised domain name transfers (domain name hijacking), you must provide us with proof that you are the domain registrant and that you are also authorised to transfer the domain name. We will not make changes to domain names without this proof of authority.
You must send us a signed fax or letter with your name, your trading name, your address and postcode, and the changes you wish to make to your domain name. You must also include an invoice number or transaction number for the registration or renewal of your domain name - only the registrant should have these details. Our fax number and address for letters of authority can be found on our contact page.
