Although it is now known that credit card transactions over the Internet are considerably safer than handing your credit card number over the telephone or over the counter, both retailers and shoppers are still concerned about credit card fraud on the Internet.
As such, WorldPay now provide a guarantee for both the retailer ( the WorldPay customer ) and the shopper. This guarantees that the retailer (customer) will receive full payment for any goods bought fraudulently and that shoppers can receive a full refund where goods fail to arrive or are not fit for the purpose intended at the time of purchase.
The Customer Guarantee
In the event that a lost or stolen credit card is used to make a purchase from your website, the genuine cardholder could request a refund (chargeback) from you through their credit card company. If they do this and you have already supplied goods, you will normally have to carry the financial loss.
The WorldPay Customer Guarantee protects you from this financial loss by guaranteeing payment for the sale. This allows you to despatch goods without worrying about fraudulent transactions.
 When you sign up to the Customer Guarantee, you will be enabled to display the 'Guaranteed by..' image (shown on the right) on your website. This can give shoppers more confidence that they will receive their goods or their money back.
The Shopper Guarantee
When you sign up for the Customer Guarantee, you also receive the Shopper Guarantee. This guarantees shoppers that they will either receive their goods as specified on your website, or they will receive their money back. This guarantee can increase customer confidence in purchasing from your website.
Cost and availability
The Customer Guarantee costs as little as £20 per month plus a small additional transaction fee of about 1%. Each Customer Guarantee applicant will be assessed individually and the actual charges will be set accordingly. The Shopper Guarantee is provided free of charge with the Customer Guarantee.
The Customer Guarantee can be purchased as an additional facility at any time for all WorldDirect merchants. The Customer Guarantee is not currently available to bank acquired merchants.
