Security
How secure is WorldPay?
WorldPay uses state of the art security tools and techniques, both proprietary and unique, to ensure that you and your shopper are protected against what is nowadays a virtually non-existent risk. WorldPay systems also have inbuilt system redundancy and fault tolerance to provide you with a virtually uninterrupted service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. WorldPay systems have evolved over many years and throughout their history, WorldPay have continuously sought and gained bank approval for their systems.
Will I need to arrange SSL secure server facilities for my web site?
No, WorldPay provides all the facilities you need to pass transactions securely over the internet. This includes use of the WorldPay SSL Secure Servers.
What security measures must we undertake for our systems to be acceptable to a processing bank?
WorldPay will authorise you for use of payment processing facilities online, including a Quality Assurance check of your site. No further bank approval is necessary.
What level of encryption do you have on the WorldPay server?
WorldPay use Thawte 2048 bit encryption systems. Full 128bit encryption is used between the browser and the WorldPay server.
What is a digital certificate?
A digital certificate is an electronic document that is passed between a browser and a server in order to verify the identity of the senders identity. This is an assurance that the server and encryption methods used are secure. Digital Certificates are issued by organisations such as Thawte, who will carry out stringent checks on the security of a server before issuing a digital certificate for the server.
Integration
Which shopping cart solution do I need?
You are free to choose from a vast range of shopping carts, many of which are free of charge. We provide our own free shopping cart that can be integrated with virtually any site in the world. See our free shopping carts page for more information.
How do I integrate my web site to WorldPay?
If you use our free shopping cart service, you will not need to integrate your site with WorldPay as our shopping cart does that for you. Otherwise, after signing up, you will be provided with the necessary documentation to integrate your site. In most cases all you need do is make some simple modifications to your HTML code. You may want to also modify your server side scripts to generate the required HTML as part of your payment pages.
Do I need to know HTML or other programming languages?
If you are creating your own shopping cart, all you need to know is how to create links from your site to the shopping cart. If you are building your own shopping cart or modifying an existing one, you should ideally have a good working knowledge of HTML in order to integrate your site. If you do not have this, we can arrange integration of your site for you for a small fee. For more information, please feel free to contact us.
How do we feed the information from our shopping system to the payment page, and vice versa?
A variety of methods could be used, each of which is laid out in the integration guides. You are free to choose whicher method best suits your requirements. You won't need to worry about this if you use our free shopping cart solution.
In what format will I receive order information?
WorldPay can dispatch confirmatory order information in whichever format you require. As standard, WorldPay will send both you and your customer an email to confirm a payment has been made. You may wish to set up your own website to email you with the details of goods purchased etc upon completion of a payment. This feature is included with our free shopping cart.
What technical support will be available?
Integration documentation is provided both by WorldPay and by LWD Internet. WorldPay provide technical support and customer support. If you are unable to integrate your site, LWD Internet can arrange integration for a small fee. For more information, please feel free to contact us.
Costs
Isn't this expensive ?
WorldPay e-commerce facilities cost very little - less than a packet of cigarettes or a couple of pints of beer each week. You should also bear in mind that Internet users are increasingly willing to make purchases over the Internet. If you do not have full e-commerce facilities on your website you could be losing out on additional sales. The cost of e-commerce facilities can be quickly recovered through additional sales received through the use of e-commerce facilities.
You should also bear in mind that if a visitor to your site is unable to make a purchase directly from your site, they will tend to find another website which they can make their purchase from rather than placing their order by telephone or by post.
But I can take credit card numbers by email at no extra charge...
Internet users tend to prefer to make purchases from websites with full e-commerce facilities rather than having their credit card numbers emailed to the site owners. Sending credit card numbers by email isn't very secure, even when 128-bit encryption is used. The encrypted number needs to be decrypted by the website owner, and the number is likely to remain accessible to anyone else who uses the site owners computer. This opens up the possibility of theft of credit card numbers.
Accepting credit card numbers by email may also be in breach of your Merchant Agreement, and may lead to penalties being imposed by your bank. This could include termination of your Mechant Account.
Other
Do I need Merchant facilities from my bank ?
No. WorldPay provide Internet Merchant status regardless of whether you have Merchant facilities through your bank. Even if you have been turned down for merchant facilities with your bank, you may be able to obtain Internet Merchant status through WorldPay, and still process credit and debit cards over the counter or over the phone with the use of the Virtual Terminal.
What about my trading history ?
New businesses and those with a short trading history are welcome to apply for Internet Merchant facilities through WorldPay. Over 90% of applications are accepted.
Can any business obtain WorldPay e-commerce facilities ?
No. Adult and gambling sites are prohibited. Travel companies will need to be approved and guaranteed by regulatory authorities such as ABTA, and will need to pass further checks. Non-pornographic sites selling adult goods (such as condoms etc) may be able to obtain Internet Merchant facilities.
Also prohibited are bailiffs, debt collectors, chat rooms, some barter and auction sites, some chartered bus tours, escort agencies, theatre and concert promotion, cigarette sales and sales of second-hand goods. If in doubt, please feel free to contact us.
Can WorldPay handle multiple simultaneous transactions?
Yes. WorldPay have many machines that handle transactions, each with their own secure connections to the processing banks. Should any individual machine be busy when your transaction request arrives, the next available machine will be used. This enables WorldPay to process any number of transactions quickly regardless of the number of transactions arriving for processing.
Can I use any ISP to connect to WorldPay?
Yes, connection to WorldPay takes place using the industry standard HTTP or HTTPS via your browser. The full systems will work with any ISP.
How soon can I start accepting credit card payments from my web site ?
You could be trading in as little as 48 hours. This does of course depend on when you sign up, how quickly you can integrate your site, and how soon you can return the required documents to WorldPay. WorldPay will need to examine your site to ensure it works correctly before you go live.
