All of our servers use the Plesk control panel allowing users to setup email, change passwords, view statistics and log files, access and edit databases via PHPMyAdmin, password protect directories and much more. This page will give you a brief overview of the control panel. More detailed information for some control panel functions can be found on other pages in this section.
IMPORTANT When your web hosting account is set up, we will send you an email with login and setup information. This email is extremely important. Please print this email and retain for future use.
Control Panel Basics
All servers use the Plesk control panel. There are several versions of Plesk, some using buttons, others use icons, but all provide the same features and all work in much the same way. For convenience, our instructions refer to buttons - these may be icons or buttons.
Plesk includes a number of features that we do not provide or that are not available on your account. Some buttons may be greyed out - for example, we do not provide SiteBuilder, Tomcat or Anonymous FTP. Other buttons may appear to be available but will not work - for example, we do not allow use of crontabs for individual users.
If you are unsure whether a particular service or feature is provided, please check the web hosting pages. You may find that you can take advantage of some features by upgrading your account. If a particular feature is not shown on the web hosting pages then it is simply not available and will not be set up on your account.
Control Panel Access
Accessing Your Control Panel You can access your control panel with your web browser by entering the URL given to you by email when your web hosting account is set up. We recommend that you bookmark this page by selecting Add to Favourites from the Favourites menu in your web browser.
Your Login and Password are as given in the email we send you when we set up your web hosting account. Please note that these are case sensitive - ABC is different to abc. You may change your password as detailed below. If you forget your login details, you can use the Get Password link from the login page on the control panel.
Finding Your Way Around When you first login, you will see a large number of buttons, most of which are explained either in this support page or in other support pages on our site. Every page in the control panel has a Help button or link which when clicked will pop open a window with some very useful information - please read the information carefully before making any changes. All sub-pages have a button marked Up Level either at the bottom of the page or in the top right hand corner - use this to go back up to the previous level rather than using the back button in your browser. Remember to scroll down and click the OK or Update button whenever you need to save changes to any settings. Also remember to click the LOG OUT link or button when you have finished using the control panel.
Changing your password You may wish to change your control panel password to something more memorable than the password we give you at the time we set up your web hosting account. To change your password, click the Domain User button. Enter your new password in both boxes. Then scroll down and click the Update button.
Setting Up Email
Information about setting up mailboxes is included on a separate page here.
Setting Up FTP
Information about setting up FTP access and setting up FTP clients (software) is included on a separate page here. You can also upload and manage files using the File Manager button from the control panel. The File Manager also includes a WYSIWYG HTML editor and allows you to change permissions on CGI scripts.
Setting Up Databases
If your hosting account allows them, you may set up MySQL databases on your web hosting account. MySQL databases can be managed with phpMyAdmin which is available within the control panel. Information about MySQL databases can be found on the PHP and MySQL page.
