This document relates to the use of FrontPage 2000 with your Linux web hosting account. Users with Windows web hosting accounts should refer to the FrontPage on Windows hosting page.
Please note that our support is limited to ensuring that FrontPage extensions are installed and working on your site. Building your website and using Microsoft FrontPage is your responsibility.
Availability of FrontPage Extensions FrontPage extensions are only installed on Linux hosting accounts upon request. There is no charge for adding FrontPage extensions to your Linux hosting account.
Compatibility FrontPage allows you to create web pages with features such as hit counters, databases and so on. Some of these features require use of technologies only available on Windows web hosting. We cannot make any guarantees as to which features will or will not work on Linux hosting accounts. We recommend that if you need to use FrontPage for anything more than creating plain web pages, you should use Windows hosting instead. You can find out more about compatibility issues on the Microsoft FrontPage site.
Publishing with FrontPage There are several versions of FrontPage. The instructions below are for FrontPage 2000, but should work for other versions of FrontPage.
- Within FrontPage, and with your site open and ready to be published, click on File then Publish Web.
- Enter your full URL (http://www.yoursite.com) and click Publish.
- Enter your username and password when prompted, remembering that these will be case sensitive.
NoteTo publish to the main web/ directory so that pages are visible from http://www.yoursite.com, you should use the site administrator's username and password as supplied at the time your account was set up. If you use the username and password for another user on your account with FrontPage extensions, FrontPage will publish to the wrong directory.
- Click OK and FrontPage should begin uploading your site.
- When FrontPage has completed publishing your site, you should see a message saying "Web site published successfully".
Connection Problems Almost all FrontPage support requests we receive are from FrontPage users unable to publish their websites because they have used the wrong settings. FrontPage will only publish your website to the server if you use the correct settings. Please check your settings carefully and try again. The settings you need are in the email we send you when we set up your web hosting account.
If you continue to have difficulty publishing your website, ask another FrontPage user to help set up your copy of FrontPage and to help you publish your site.
Using FrontPage We do not provide support for using FrontPage or any other software. You can obtain support and help for using FrontPage from the many FrontPage user forums on the Internet. A quick search on any search engine should give you a list of FrontPage forums.
Other Problems In the first instance, you should check the documentation supplied with FrontPage. If that fails to resolve your problem, please look through the Microsoft FrontPage website at http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/ and the Microsoft Support pages at http://support.microsoft.com. You should find all the answers you need on these sites.
