This page contains information about graphical statistics on our Linux hosting accounts. Users with Windows hosting accounts should refer to the Windows support pages instead.
Graphical Statistics
All of our Linux hosting accounts have Webalizer graphical statistics installed. This gives you information about the number of visitors to your site, the most popular pages visited, referring sites, search strings and other information.
Accessing Webalizer Statistics
You can access your Webalizer statistics with your web browser by entering your URL followed by /stats. For example, http://www.yoursite.com/stats. You will be asked for your username and password. Enter these, remembering that they are case sensitive, and you should arrive on the main Webalizer page for your account.
Viewing Statistics
The main page will show monthly summaries for each month that your site has been on that server. Click the month link to view the statistics for that month.
The following is a brief guide to just some parts of the statistics.
| Hits | This is the number of HTTP hits on your site, not the number of unique visitors to your site. Each HTTP request, whether for a web page or an image or any other file type, can be logged as a hit. One page with 10 images could be logged as 11 hits. |
| Visits | This is the number of unique visitors to your site and will include web browsers and search engine spiders. Each visit can be for any number of web pages. Even if the visitor views every page on your site, this may only be one single visit. |
| Referers | This will show where your site visitors came from, whether from a search engine or from a link on another site. |
| Search | This lists search terms used by visitors to find your site. |
| Agents | This lists User Agents that have visited your site and how many hits they have each had. Each browser or search engine spider has a User Agent string. |
You should note that we do not provide any further information or guidance for interpreting these statistics. For more information about how to interpret these statistics, you should visit the Webalizer home page.
Important Notes
You should note that Webalizer statistics are updated once per day at about 04.30am GMT. Visits to your site today will not be included in the statistics until after 04.30am tomorrow. No statistics will be available for a new site until after 04.30am the day after the account was created.
Other Statistics Packages
If Webalizer doesn't provide you with all the information you need, there are many other graphical statistics packages such as WebTrends or Analog Statistics. Some are remotely hosted live statistics packages which require you to place a link on your pages. Others will require you to download your log files for analysis. Try them out and choose whatever you prefer.
Other Site Statistics
Although Webalizer shows things like which sites or search engines visitors have come from and what search terms were used, it doesn't combine these to tell you which search terms were used on any particular search engine and so on. This information is available from your log files, which can be accessed through your control panel or FTP. More information about accessing other information is available on our site usage page.
